Efficient and comprehensive energy management
Buildings account for 44% of global energy consumption. With holistic energy management, this energy consumption could be reduced by half.
The focus is on recording and displaying all energy consumption, production and consumption in the building. In order to visualize and optimize all energy flows, the building needs a central controller: the Loxone Miniserver. This connects all of the building's (energy) components and ensures that they work as efficiently as possible, both individually and together.
Step-by-step guide to real energy efficiency with Loxone
1. Recording and visualizing all energy flows:
The first step in real energy management is knowing where energy goes within a building, how much is consumed, and how much is generated. The Loxone energy flow monitor plays a central role in this. All data can be displayed in real time in an attractive visualization in the Loxone app. This information provides a clear overview of the current energy status of the building and enables targeted optimization measures to be taken.
2. Reducing basic energy consumption:
With Loxone, you can find ways to reduce the base load, for example by automatically switching off unnecessary consumers. Potential energy leaks are also identified. Common energy wasters include air conditioning or ventilation systems that run at high levels even when no one is in the building. Reducing the base load results in immediate cost savings. One watt of constant consumption costs about $3 per year. While this may sound insignificant, it quickly adds up in a home or business with multiple appliances. In addition, reducing the base load helps reduce carbon emissions and extends the life of equipment.
3. Shift in energy consumption:
With Loxone's unique software, energy consumption can be shifted to times when energy is cheaper or even free – especially when solar energy is available. The basics of efficient energy management Our software changes everything Loxone is often considered a hardware manufacturer – but our hardware products are just the tip of the iceberg. First and foremost, we are a software company. After all, we invest 85% of our total development effort into our software tools. Only our exceptional, free software can create such a modern, holistic energy management system that delivers outstanding performance and significant energy savings.
Why is an integrated building energy management system important?
Intelligent energy distribution depends on production, demand, priority setting, presence, and many other factors. In the event of excess energy, consumers can be activated intelligently to increase their own consumption, thus making efficient use of solar energy. It is also possible to determine that electric cars should be charged during periods of high energy production or when energy prices are particularly low.
Inverter
The inverter integrated into the intelligent building energy management system enables energy production to be monitored and converts solar energy into electricity for self-consumption. The Loxone home and building automation system optimizes the use of the electricity generated based on energy consumption data by either supplying consumers with solar energy or selling the surplus to the grid.
Battery storage
The Loxone energy management system determines when the built-in battery storage should be charged or discharged based on the level of energy production, the amount of electricity consumed in the building, and the current price of electricity. This enables efficient management of self-generated energy and reduces the building's dependence on the electricity grid for its day-to-day operations.
Wallbox
Loxone shifts the charging time for electric cars so that it occurs during periods of high or adequate energy production (e.g. on a sunny day when the sky is clear) or when electricity prices are at their lowest. Thanks to the flexibility and openness of the Loxone building energy management system and its interfaces, the system supports various wallbox manufacturers and the Loxone Wallbox.

Holistic energy management with intelligent lighting and sound
A holistic energy management system monitors the individual and collective operation and performance of all intelligent components in an intelligent building. This includes lighting and multi-room audio.
Thanks to their reliable detection of presence and movement, Loxone presence detectors form the basis for automating these important functions. Controlling lighting and music only when and where people are present optimizes energy consumption – no energy is wasted where it is not needed, whether in an office with multiple meeting rooms or in a smart home where no one is working from home during the day.
